Study and pray through the art of iconography. Learn from artist Jane Ladik, who has written many of the icons at St. Laurence.
Icons are pictorial representations of Biblical scenes from the life of Jesus Christ, historical events in the life of the Church, and portraits of the saints. They are meant to be understood in a manner similar to Holy Scripture. They are not simply artistic compositions but rather are witnesses to the truth the way Scripture is. The writing (the correct term, as opposed to painting) of icons provides an image that becomes a vehicle for prayer and a model to which we can conform our lives, thoughts, words and deeds.
The Sacred Arts Class meets every Monday from 10:00am-5:00pm in the Parish Hall to work individually on their own icons, with instruction by Jane Ladik. Cost is a one-time charge of $145 for materials and $35 for each week. Come and go as your schedule allows.
