September Activities

Here’s a brief look at what's coming in September, with more info to come in the upcoming weeks:

  • Parent’s Day Out starts Tues, Sept. 1 with a full program! Please send your prayers for the children, families and teachers who are involved in this incredible program as they begin their 3rd year. The Parish Hall will now be in use on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am-2:30pm.

  • The Nursery Will Open on Sundays beginning Sept. 6 during both the 8:30 and 10:45am services. It will also be open for the 5:30pm Outdoor Mass when it begins on Sept. 20. For the safety of the children and our staff, 6 children is the maximum we can care for at one time, so online reservations in advance will be needed. Look for an email with the reservation link to come each Monday prior.

  • Sunday School for all ages will begin Sept. 13.

  1. PreK-5th grade will have a fun video teaching released each Sunday that you can watch on your own schedule. It will include an animated Bible story and then a teaching by Children’s Director Megan Mecca. Lots of other fun elements will be rotated in over the weeks so that we keep it fresh and engaging for the kids.
  2. 6th-12th grades will meet in-person outside (weather permitting) at 9:50am and Youth Director Katie LaPenna will lead the teaching.
  3. Adults will have at least 2 options to choose from. There will be a Zoom class led by Fr. John at 9:50am called “Putting on the Armor of God for the Day of Battle: Living Through 2020.” Then at the same time, there will be an in-person outdoor class at the Church (weather permitting) called “Finding Jesus in the Old Testament” taught by Fr. Matthew.
  • Children’s Chapel will be live on Facebook every Sunday at 10:00am beginning Sept. 13. Then on the last Sunday of each month, beginning Sept. 27, Children’s Chapel will be held in-person during the 8:30am service. This service just for kids will be held in the Parish Hall instead of the  Children’s Chapel room so they can safely spread out. The children will start with their parents in the Church and then when called, they will follow the cross to their service in the Parish Hall. They will return to their parents in the Church at the time of the peace.

  • Youth Groups will begin later in Sept.

  1. God Squad for 4-5th graders will meet in-person outside (weather permitting) the last Sunday of each month from 4:15-5:15pm. Please contact Children’s Director Megan Mecca here if you have a child interested in participating.
  2. Jr. and Sr. High Youth Group will meet in-person outdoors on the back parking lot (weather permitting) on Sundays following the outdoor service, from 6:15-7:15pm beginning Sept. 20. Please contact Youth Director Katie LaPenna here if you have a 6-12th grader interested in participating.
  3. Mid-Week Brain Break - Jr. and Sr. High Youth. For a little bit of fun and Jesus, the Jr. and Sr. High Youth will meet on Zoom Wednesdays from 6:00-6:30pm beginning Sept. 16. It’ll be a time to talk, laugh and hang out with your Youth Group friends.
  • Outdoor Sunday Evening Mass. On Sept. 20 when Evensong usually begins for the year, we will instead offer an outdoor Mass at the arbor in the grass area by the office (weather permitting) Sundays at 5:30pm. Childcare will be offered and reservations will be necessary. This will give an option for those who want to come to Mass and receive communion but who are not ready to participate inside the Church building. Please bring your own chair, sit 6 feet apart from others, wear your mask and use hand sanitizer before communion.

  • CrossWord Bible Study will begin in mid-Sept. on Zoom and with an in-person option as well.

  • Coffee Hour between the services unfortunately cannot resume for the time being. Drinking coffee and enjoying snacks necessitates the removal of masks, which is not in line with our safety protocols. We know everyone is missing the fellowship that is such an important part of our life at St. Laurence, so we encourage everyone to participate in the services, classes and ministries in whatever form they take this Fall.
